Ted Cruz is Guarding Conservatism’s Moral Compass

In a striking moment of moral clarity, coming at a time when some conservatives have succumbed to confusion or chosen silence, Texas Senator Ted Cruz declared antisemitism has become a “an existential crisis” and a challenge for the conservative movement and the Republican Party.

In today’s environment, where self-styled populists and internet influencers flirt with, or seek to explain away, antisemitism, Ted Cruz stood apart. It is the latest instance of the clarity and principle which has defined Cruz throughout his career.

Today, Ted Cruz is defending the conservative movement by guarding its moral compass.

Would-be influencers and online populists have developed a formula using the conservative lexicon to drift into antisemitic tropes and conspiracies, updated for the 21st century.

This threatens to weaken the conservative movement and the Republican Party on multiple fronts.

It undermines the coherence of modern conservatism and its core principle that people should be judged based on their own conduct. Antisemitism and racism is in direct conflict with this principle of personal responsibility because it… Read More

So Where is the CFPB?

I never had much regard for Lizzie Warren’s brainchild — the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). It was created with a devious form of funding (profits of the Federal Reserve) to keep it away from the control of our duly elected officials (Congress) and has been funded illegally for the past couple of years as the Fed has had losses, not profits. It claims it has saved Americans over $21 billion. You would think they would be able to work toward getting Americans coherent credit reports as a basic function. Here they have failed. I have never pulled my credit report to inspect it. Do not need to. I have all the credit I need. Occasionally, a lender or my bank pulls a report and tells me there are a couple of write-offs on it. I told them they were phony baloney charges I refused to pay. I do not bow to the threat, “We are going to report it to the credit report companies.” I tell them to go right ahead. I tell the lender I pay the bills I owe. The lender then approves my credit. This issue at hand involves the Beautiful Wife (BW). She is being declined a credit limit increase that she needs because the card is used for business… Read More

Is 2026 the Year Blacks Will Be Freed in America?

In 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on the future of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (Act). Their ruling will have profound effects on our country. While reading a column by a leading light of the Left, I got immense clarity on this issue. First, let me be clear the Act was a significant turning point in America. The Act clarified the 14th Amendment ratified in 1868 making clear that America’s former slaves had rights equal to all other Americans. If their voting rights were impaired, then the value of their rights were diminished. The Act addressed that. Leave it to the Left of today to misinterpret the entire matter. In his column Opinion | The Death of the Fourth American Republic – The New York Times Jamelle Bouie defines clearly for me how misguided his thinking is on this matter. In the third paragraph he provides me with great clarity but not in the manner he intended. He says this, “In Louisiana, as is true in much of the Deep… Read More

When You Are Failing as a Political Leader, Deflect

There are essentially two kinds of politicians: Those who admit to failings and tell the voters they are sorry, and they will fix it. That is rare. The more frequent ones are those who, when they are flailing, point fingers at a bogeyman and focus on something other than the true issues causing failure. Gavin Newsom, who wants to be president, is a perfect example of the latter. He deflects. I ran into a perfect example of deflection recently. Britain made a failed attempt to solve the world’s energy crisis. The Telegraph had a story on September 30th: “Britain is paying the highest electricity prices in the world as net zero costs rise.” The Liberals, the current party in power, have a 15% approval rating largely based on this issue. Their Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, told the Guardian “The truth is the reason why people’s living standards are stuck, why growth has been so low and public services are on their knees is trickle-down economics from the 80’s.” Blaming Maggie Thatcher from 45 years ago – sure, that will work. Gallivanting Gavin got lucky and has his favorite foil back in office — Donald Trump. It is too warm,… Read More

My Special Connection to Charlie

When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, I was contacted by a lot of people asking whether I personally knew him. I did not. When he got started, he was 18 years old, and I did not think what he was doing was particularly applicable to me. Many of my friends knew him well; arguably better than well. But I had an understanding of Charlie that few people had and let me tell you why. During the 2000 presidential campaign, I interacted with many people supporting George W. Bush. I spoke to some about the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), an organization I first encountered in 1992. One gentleman discussed with me forming a local chapter of the operation in Los Angeles. Meaning, it was up to me to form the chapter. I contacted a variety of people, and we decided to have a meeting at my home. I conveyed this to the group’s Chief Executive Officer and asked him to come out from D.C. for the meeting. When he arrived at our home he expected to see a group of 8-10 people. Remember, this was before email was widely used. When he walked into was our living room/dining room, it was packed with 60-70 people. He was both stunned and exhilarated. People were hanging… Read More

Why Are Democrats Allowing Their Party to Be Eaten Whole?

I have been involved in the political arena forever and a day. I have read about political parties since the inception of our country. Parties have evolved and some have disappeared like the Federalists and the Whigs. I have never seen a political party allow people who don’t even call themselves members of the party to consume a party. That is what is happening today with the Democrats. The Democrats have decided to allow people who are not even really party members to run for office under their name and not be forced to abandon the party they truly are in and commit to being Democrats. Bernie Sanders is the Godfather of this movement. He has always identified as a Socialist, but that was long before the current variation of organized Socialists in America was formed in 1982. Sanders has always been listed as an independent but has caucused with the Democrats in the U.S. Senate. The Democrats give him full rights without ever asking him to be an actual Democrat and adopt the principles of the party. The organization that has spawned the current movement is the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Since members of this group advocate for the… Read More

Hoorah for Hate Speech

While our country is going through a time when people are evangelizing regarding free speech, I love that they are doing such. Then I ask some about what their thoughts are about the Twitter Files, and they say, “What’s that?” I wonder whether they heard of the recent announcement Google was suppressing free speech at behest of Biden. You cannot be for free speech when it is only for your political side. One must be for free speech always. Hear that England. This is a column I wrote a couple years back and is particularly relevant today. You, like I, certainly are stunned that there would be a day in the United States where people are talking about banning certain forms of speech and branding it as “hate speech.” As someone who is a free speech absolutist, I find the entire matter repulsive. I applaud that the opportunity to offend me by speech exists. It is an essential American freedom. First, let’s define a “free speech absolutist.” One can’t encourage violence against a group or a person. One can’t yell “fire” in a crowded place when there is no emergency. Other than that, Americans… Read More

Where Do Americans Get Their Meaning of Life?

As we head into the time of the year when many Americans reflect beyond the material benefits that are provided by our capitalist society, I encountered a communication from the self-appointed philosopher, David Brooks of the New York Times. The title of the column caught my eye: Opinion | Why More People in the World Are Feeling Hopeful (Except Us) – The New York Times. Of course, since Brooks moved to the NYT, he hangs with the crowd that cannot find happiness. They despise America’s material wealth while sipping their lattes and quoting from their brand-new iPhone. After Brooks tells us the rest of the world is going along swimmingly while Americans are not, he slips in the definition of why his cohorts are so disgruntled. Mr. Brooks tells us about what he obviously sees as an exciting new book coming out which he must have had a chance to read in pre-publication. Brooks states, “Coming from Brink Lindsey, whose book ‘The Permanent Problem’ will be coming out soon, is that affluence changes expectations. Affluent people want government and… Read More
